OUT-CAST Woyzeck. Baila!

OUT-CAST - Woyzeck. Baila! is a contemporary dance duo inspired by Georg Büchner's drama Woyzeck. Woyzeck as a starting point, as a source of inspiration, as a historical prototype of a social outsider.

Woyzeck is our outcast, he loses control of his body and his mind. In the end, he turns from victim to murderer. We transfer Büchner's drama to what we consider to be the social drama of our time: Migration.

We translate this story into a choreographic language based on the idea of the dysfunctional body: the body that no longer follows you, whose limbs take on a life of their own, that twitches and gets caught up in endless repetitions and loops. A piece in fragments, each of the two dancers can slip into any role at any time, they can be perpetrators or victims. The world seen through the perception of someone who has fallen out of it.

OUT-CAST - Woyzeck. Baila! is about those who, like Woyzeck, live on the margins of society, just like many migrants today. With no money and no prospects for the future, they often increasingly lose touch with reality and turn from victims to perpetrators. OUT-CAST - Woyzeck. Dance! is about the search for happiness and the impossibility of achieving it.

MUY TEATRERO

OUT-CAST. Woyceck. Baila! by DanceLab Berlin at the Teatros del Canal.

A fragmentary piece of contemporary dance consisting of different tableaux on a sparse stage, on which two experienced dancers perfectly complement each other to convey emotions and make them shine in their own light.

Exciting and interesting.

DANCING IS GOOD FOR WOYZECK

DanceLab Berlin premiered this compact Büchner version by Norbert Servos and Jorge Morro last night as part of the Canal Baila cycle at Teatros del Canal. We were there and this is our opinion....

Text OMAR KHAN

Originally a theatre play, ‘Woyzeck’, this classic about alienation by Georg Büchner, (... ) was transferred to the world of dance and presented to us as a small, compact and concentrated choreography as part of the Canal Baila cycle of Teatros del Canal by DanceLab Berlin, a company, directed in Germany by the prestigious writer and creator Norbert Servos (lauded author of the most widespread and recognised essays on Pina Bausch) and the Spaniard Jorge Morro, who is not only co-choreographer but also dances this dance theatre duet together with the very expressive dancer Silvia Ventura.

OUTCAST. Woyzeck. Baila! does not follow the conventional narrative, but articulates itself (...) in the versatility and commitment of its two performers, two experienced bodies, clever and intelligent, who prove to be experts in the difficult task of transforming gestures and movements into emotions, within the framework of a reduced and sober production, (...) which maintains the concentration, chemistry and harmony of its remarkable leading couple from beginning to end.
